Goose Creek’s first basketball team played their first game on December 1, 1918 and beat Cedar Bayou 26-1. The team included Fred Mitchell, Guiles Henderson, Ervin Flowers, Arthur Hill, and James Grandstaff. James Grandstaff was a brother of Emory Grandstaff who was principal of Baytown Elementary School for many years. Emory Grandstaff is the father of Kathy Grant Crosby, wife of Bing Crosby.
