- Information
On August 3, 1917 the well blew-in, out of control oil spouted 250 feet in the air and sprayed clothes lines in “Newton” three miles north. For several days the well blew oil, gas, and rocks before it was brought under control. For many years, a pile of rocks stood just off the Tabbs Bay Causeway as an unmarked monument of Baytown’s early history. The Sweet 11 came in at 35,000 barrels per day.
