- Information
This is the good ship “Virginia” loaded with rice, and bound for the Galveston market. This was in 1908 and auxiliary gasoline engines were just coming into use. Earlier sailing ships had to be towed to the mouth of Cedar Bayou by mule. Usually it was the youngsters’ job to lead the mule along the tow path until the ship could set sail then return with the mule when the ship returned. IT seemed back in those days everybody had plenty of time.
