A.E. Archer, 1935; A.E. (Slim) Archer, first telephone man and foreman, at his desk beside the new installation of telephone equipment. Archer installed the first telephones at the Baytown refinery in 1919 after stringing wires and phones in Goose Creek field production department. He installed ten hand-cranked telephones in the plant. Nat Hall, employment office, compiled the first telephone directory on the back of an old pencil tablet indicating rings: 1 long, 2 short, etc.
