The "Living Legend of Baytown", Captain Jesus Gonzales Moya served in the armies of Mexican Revolutionary leaders, Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa. He initially joined Zapata in 1910 at the age of ten. A year later he joined the forces of Villa. He was referred to as the boy spy. He would dress at age fourteen as a peasant boy and wound infiltrate towns and spy for Villa prior to raids and attacks. Commissioned Captain by Villa in 1915. Dismissed from military duty in 1916. As a result of the political turmoil in Mexico he immigrated to the US and settled in Baytown. Background was intentionally obsured until the late 1970s for fear of prosecution because of the Villa raids in the US. Captain Moya was summoned by the Mexican government in 1979 and was awarded honors with a certificate and medal for heroism and service to his country. He was also presented an officer's uniform of honor from the military of the Republic of Mexico. The Republic of Mexico honored him with a pension and a land grant.
