Construction began in 1932 on the Tabbs Bay – Hog Island Causeway. Contractors built a concrete roadway on top of the wooden piers. The causeway led to the Morgan’s Point Ferry, cutting time and distance needed to reach La Porte, Galveston, and the towns in between.
